A fun young family with a penchant for cooking wanted to modernize and update a Craftsman spec home in the Eastmoreland neighborhood, and asked us to create a durable but elegant space for them to live and entertain. The striking home, with a strong structure on a sun-drenched double lot, called to us to imbue the client’s personality with living finishes - unlacquered brass, handcrafted Heath tiles, a 72” Lacanche range and a soapstone waterfall island - to show evidence of the lives that touch them. The Kitchen cabinets are painted blue-black, creating a dramatic central gathering space that changes with the day. The Dining Room cabinetry is accented with custom metal display cabinets which showcase a collection of wares and wines. In the adjacent nook, where anything from spaghetti flinging to Lego building could ensue, we designed a custom walnut table and a built-in bench. We paired those with leggy black stools and a well-traveled vintage Moroccan rug in deep magenta to weather the gatherings, giving off-hours a moody and sophisticated touch.
