Glyph Cafe & Arts Space
Hugo and Sandra came to us with their dream of opening a local gathering space on the NW Park Blocks which would integrate art, poetry and delicious food. We dove in and collaborated with them to create a warm, handcrafted space, playing with textures and fabrication techniques. The art gallery smooth walls are strikingly juxtaposed with the building's concrete pillars and addition of rhythmic patterns, a play on petroglyphs, throughout. Living copper accents abound in origami-like chairs and perforated pendant lights, other textures play in the form of the toasted bamboo and custom laser cut coffee and tea performance service counter. Pendelton wool pillows lay about and hand-strung wooden geometric beads twinkle in the windows as pendant lights. We collaborated with local furniture maker Reed LaPlant to design poetry shadow box tables of cerused oak and steel, as well as a charred wood "poetry wall" in the spirit of the Wailing Wall meets Shou-sugi-ban. We were proud to help this vision come to life be part of the collaboration for Glyph Cafe & Arts Space which also included Calista Fitzgerald of LRS architects and R&H construction.
The Scope: full tenant improvement restaurant design, interior design, finishes, furniture selection, custom furniture and detailing of all built-ins.
