alberta arts white + shaker kitchen

The client, a purveyor of splendid vintage decor and jewels, came to us with a wish to renovate her NE Portland Alberta Arts District home in a traditional, classic, historic style with reclaimed elements and personality infused throughout the design. The home is also a rental on Airbnb so along with gorgeous, the new design needed to also be functional and durable.  We collaborated with the client to streamline the space, add a farm sink, a modern Bertazzoni gas range and custom Shaker style cabinets. At some point in the home's history, the ceiling had been dropped so that was lifted and we put T&G cedar on the ceiling, creating warmth, and reflecting the original fir floor.  The walls were clad with reclaimed wood waiting patiently for many years in the General Contractor's garage (every contractor has a secret stash!), and painted in a creamy white to match the cabinets. The hood is hidden in a wood shroud with matte subway tile below.  Reclaimed pool table slate creates a smooth dark contrast - an amazingly beautiful find. Open shelving displays a collection of vintage dishware; and in classic Portlandia we-can-pickle-that form, a plethora of pickled pots!  Classic bronze hardware, push button light controls and period lighting bring it all home... (so to speak.)
